Skills Development
Salam Support Services will offer Technical and vocational education and training programs to address these by equipping individuals—especially youth, women, and rural populations—with practical skills in areas like tailoring, beautician work, technical trades, plumbing, electrician, air conditioning, auto mechanics, and other employable competencies, leading to job creation, increased productivity, and poverty reduction.
Vocational programs are essential for the economic upliftment of Sindhi communities, particularly in Pakistan’s Sindh province, where they face persistent socio-economic challenges, including high poverty rates, unemployment, rural-urban inequalities, vulnerability to natural disasters such as floods, and limited access to skilled employment opportunities. These issues are exacerbated by inadequate infrastructure, social prejudices in diaspora communities, and a lack of diversified livelihoods, especially in rural areas affected by events like the 2010 and recent floods.
Without expanded vocational access, Sindhi communities risk perpetuating cycles of inequality and underdevelopment, as emphasized in assessments highlighting the role of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in socio-economic progress. Investments in these programs, tailored to local needs such as post-disaster recovery and women’s empowerment, are crucial for sustainable development and upliftment.
Overall, through a skilled workforce, we can promote inclusive growth by bridging skill gaps. By prioritizing real-world engagement, young people can rebuild their social competence, resulting in enhanced self-esteem, increased empathy, and improved overall well-being.
Despite advancements, seniors in Sindh face significant hurdles, which are exacerbated by urbanization, shifts in the nuclear family, and economic pressures. About 5% of the province’s population is over 60. Yet, many face poverty, limited pensions, health issues (e.g., diabetes, mobility problems), elder abuse, and social isolation, particularly in rural areas like Thatta compared to urban Karachi.
